As of 2005-2006, we have 153 students in 16 class sections, offering both morning and afternoon sessions for two, three and four year olds and a Pre-K which started in 2004.  All children enrolled in the same program are born in the same calendar year.  The teachers tailor their classes to the students’ particular age range so that all children feel challenged and happy. 2’ s Program
This program is designed to help our youngest students begin to deal with separation from home and to learn the foundations of interacting within a group.

3’s and 4's Program
These programs provide children with both teacher-directed time and self-directed time throughout the day. Open play and one-to-one learning experiences begin each day, followed by group clean-up and snack set-up. During circle time, children are exposed to activities involving literacy, numbers and math, art, music and science. And, through switching time (see below), children choose among a number of age-appropriate activities that are provided in four rooms.

Pre-K Program
The program is designed for those students eligible for kindergarten who really need another maturing year. The children attend from 9am-1pm. They are involved in a creative curriculum built around the project approach. This allows them to study a concept and look at it through art, language, writing, numbers, reading and science.

Some Additions:

  • All children, except 2 year olds, go to Chapel every Thursday morning. Saint Luke’s clergy lead the children in a brief and fun chapel service.
  • The children then return to their own teachers for directed time before joining together once again for outside play time.
  • We call show-and-tell “Sharing Time.”  This time is for learning as well as teaching. The children also practice speaking and discover they can be teachers too!
  • Monthly programs in music and creative movement are offered to enhance the children’s educational experience.
  • "Imagination Station" is for the four year olds only on Fridays.  It’s a day when activities are theme-related, including games and crafts.  Children are asked to bring something from home that relates to the day’s theme.
